Spannend genug ist diese Geschichte: 1935 zeichnete eine Frau in eigener Regie die erste Strassenkarte von London. Dieser roadatlas verkaufte sich blendend, ist das Standardwerk, denn es ist bis heute konkurrenzlos geblieben. An den 26 Enden der Karte, und damit Londons steht ein einsamer Magnum-Fotograf, und schaut ins Grüne, die vorortlich-ruhige Strasse, auf den Busfriedhof, ins Nirgends. Wie in "The Shipping Forecast", wird hier Geographie und Photographie kombiniert, wird hier also der fotografischen Praxis und dem Erforschen und Flanieren eine Karte und Struktur unterlegt.
The forth book of Power follows the concept of "The shipping forecast". A map, this time of Greater London, is imposed as a grid, and from the edges and borders of it, Mark Power looks outward into no man´s land. The images are quiet and somber, at the same time evocating early landscape photography, new documents, journalism and fine art photography. But mainly this is a book about London, the city with the highest rent price in Europe.
